Travel TriviaPacking Success StoryChristina had less hassle on her Tanzania safari with just her 20L backpack.Christina is an HPM alum and an adventurous traveler. It's no surprise that she was able to head off with a small backpack and a fanny pack! Safaris involve a lot of moving from park to park and lodge to lodge. The space inside the Land Cruisers are limited. Christina appreciated that a small bag made the journey much more comfortable. She also enjoyed having everything with her on the very long airport layovers in Los Angeles and Doha, Qatar while in transit. What helped her the most? Here's what she said: . . .choosing clothing that was not only lightweight (I weighed each item on a kitchen scale), but choosing fabrics that would roll up or fold up to the size of a softball. Baseball size was even better.
I also packed several items that could do double or even triple duty.
I also used a lot of Brookeโs and the HPM course tips for toiletries. I reduced everything down to fit into a sandwich-size Stasher bag.
Well done, Christina! ๐ Do you have a packing success story you'd like to share? Respond to this email :) โ On Our ListThere are so many great products and brands out there that aim to make spring travel better. ๐ท A scarf is a great layering addition to your packing list, especially if youโre traveling in early spring when there is still a chill in the air. We love the Speakeasy Hidden Pocket Travel Scarf which keeps you warm and hides your valuables at the same time. ๐ท If you're going somewhere rainy, you might want a travel-sized umbrella or a light rain jacket (Columbia has some great options). You might also want to invest in some quick-drying clothes and rain-friendly boots (perhaps something like the Teva Rowena Buckle Waterproof Boots). ๐ท You could also pack something like the Northface Triclimate Jacket if you are traveling somewhere thatโs still quite cold in spring. ๐ท If you do have to pack a warm jacket, pop it into a compression sack so it takes up less room in your bag! โ โ ICYMI: Blog Postsโ โ I hope you have enjoyed this edition of the HPL Guidebook! Happy packing, Brooke P.S. And your trivia answer is: The Great Sphinx of Giza! On the first day of spring, the Sphinx faces the sun when it rises and when it sets it seems to sink between the sphinx's shoulders. But there are many other ancient sites that align with the sun on the equinox. |

Hey Reader, You may have heard the commotion lately on this hot topic! Many travelers are talking about the changes happening to Southwest Airlines' baggage policy. Up until now, Southwest has allowed travelers to bring up to 2 pieces of checked luggage for free! What luxury! But, starting May 28th, you will need to pay to bring checked luggage - something they haven't done for the past 50 years ๐ฑ The news may come as a shock to anyone who chooses to fly Southwest specifically for this...
Hey Reader, Would you like to take your packing list from economy to first class? Of course you would! But before we get into that, I wanted to remind you all that I am running the HPL Annual Reader Survey right now. It would be extremely helpful for me to know a bit more about you. And, since I've been stuck in bed sick for the past week, I've extended the deadline for the $30 Amazon Gift Card drawing to February 9th! Now, onto the packing list... Hey Reader, Before taking Baggage Freedom Express, Kim was hesitant: "I thought I was beyond help, having packed this way for so very long." Can you relate? Kim was stuck in a packing rut. ๐งณ While old habits die hard, our inability to get out of a rut often comes down to not clearly seeing an alternative (and viable) path. For some, packing light feels like finding a nice, new route that hasn't yet been added to Google Maps. It'll be incredibly frustrating trying to track it down without help...
